It is interesting how the Desert Fathers - fleeing the decadent shipwreck of a culture extremely like our own - basically only taught the same four things:

“shut up, get outside, try to learn how to pray, and don’t even think about judging anyone but yourself.”

Well…this is an account where I draw “pastors”. 🤷‍♂️

Not being a student of church history, I had no idea who the Desert Fathers were. In fact, when I first read this I thought he was talking about the Hebrews fleeing the Egyptians. But now I’ve spent the early morning reading about monks and ascetics and hermits and there are some people that really took the “discipline” part of disciple to the extreme. 😳 I want to live a life of discipline but this is something entirely different. So much to learn though. I’ve always marveled at the ability of some people to push their bodies and minds to these kinds of limits. It’s interesting that these four things are the general takeaways from their work.

I really enjoy Pauls twitter - not only for the tweets but there’s a surprising amount of mushroom talk that happens there that is frankly really interesting. I didn’t realize he was such a FUNGI 😅💀💀💀💀
