“In the black church it is not unusual to experience every emotion. If you go to a service and you don’t laugh, cry, dance, have a rich conversation and also a conversation that made you angry, it’s possible you didn’t go to church.”
When I made my audit post the other day a lot people sent me link to Austins work but particularly I got a few recommendations of her appearance on the @thebiblefornormalpeople where I got this quote.
What’s really interesting to me is that my story here is of my thoughts wandering while in the service - wondering about what I was going to eat, planning out my day, etc and my use of drawing to prevent that drift. The church that Austin describes is not one that appears to lend itself to apathy. I heard a description of a church where people talk, and worship, and bring their Bible *gasp.* It was so interesting to me to get that kind of insight for sure.
I was talking to someone the other day and I expressed that sometimes I feel like I’m about to run out of people to draw and I wander down a path of social media that leads to huge vein of people doing wonderful for the Lord and Gospel that I never knew existed. Apparently here’s another one of those paths.
Also - "The Bible for Normal People" sounds like a podcast that was created just for me. 😅
