Don’t outsource discipleship to a Sunday sermon, a book

Don’t outsource discipleship to a Sunday sermon, a book, a podcast, an instagram account, etc.
Information ≠ Transformation
The transformation of the soul into the cruciform Christ is a necessarily slow and silent process for which there is no substitute.
Jacob from the @awriterandtheword
I’m a huge fan of Jacob’s account. Beautiful pictures, thoughtful posts, great quotes but this story he posted not so long ago really speaks to the idea that sometimes all of *this* is too much.
I fall into this all the time - too much time drawing, buying books, answering DM’s, working on commissions, fulfilling orders, watching videos, watching stories, watching reels, checking IG, checking twitter, glancing at Facebook, updating the site…and this is my “side thing.” Not a single one of these things is bad but they’re not the slow and steady work to develop myself as a disciple of Jesus. A lot of it is information without the transformation. Jacob lays out such a great reminder here that the real work is done in silent. Real intimacy with scripture and prayer is a skill to develop and to practice for which there is frankly no substitute.
Geez…I want to make a “information ≠ transformation” sticker. 🤔
Side note: I said “none of these things is bad” but I lied. Reels are bad. It’s like eating only the icing off of the cake. Not even the good icing, the old school one that’s basically corn syrup and trans fats. You can get away with watching them for a while but I’m afraid it eventually leads to intellectual diabetes. You won’t be able to focus without some sort of external help. 🤷♂️
