The only skill mentioned in the Bible associated with being a pastor is being able to teach. The rest centers around character. Let the reader understand.

This tweet from Pastor Adam really stuck with me. Determining character is really difficult at scale. I don’t work in ministry but in the corporate world, it’s easy to measure to someones output or work quality or revenue-generating ability. But to measure character requires someone to spend time with a person and to be honest about what they observe.

I’m guessing here but I imagine the church has the same problem. You can measure the quality of a sermon or the ability to teach but evaluating character is so difficult.

When reading this and going over to 1 Timothy 3 I’m reminded of my grandfather who was a deacon in his church. I could only hope to be a person of that kind of character.
