Stop me if you’ve overheard this after a church service:

“Oh the music was so loud, I just couldn’t get into it.”

“Why do they always pick those songs I don’t like?”

“They had Chelsea leading worship and she’s….fine but I like it better when Phil leads worship.”

“The bassist is always way too into it. I’m trying to have a moment over here.”

Just for the record, I don’t know a Chelsea or a Phil I just needed a name for my contrived examples. 😅

Look I’m not gonna lie, I’ve definitely been that guy. The one that always has a comment after the service is over; just nitpicking and sharp shooting and always finding the smallest of faults to drag on.

I love how Pastor Younger phrases it here. I’m not exactly sure where I heard it, my YouTube recommends is full of “Epic Praise break” videos and I know he said it on one of those! I love the reframing that church doesn’t have a responsibility to perform for you. We are there to worship *together.* If we come with expectations for a performance and if we leave with complaints about how that performance happened, then maybe the one we worship in that moment…is ourselves. 👀
