I saw Erwin speak at a Christian conference almost 2 decades ago and this quote is what I remember him saying. I bought the CD and I wish I could rebuy it because I wore that thing out. He ended his talk with this story and it has always stuck with me. His sentiment was this:

“Why do we keep hanging around the things that seek to destroy us?”

It’s so human right? God created a literal paradise, crafted for Adam and Eve and their only instruction was just *don’t do this one thing.*

Adam and Eve probably thought what any one of us would think:

“Now all I want to do is that one thing.” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Freedom is not freely indulging in what would destroy you, it’s running free from those things.

What better way to describe a life with the true Jesus, the maker of all things? Not captive to the things we “shouldn’t do” but being able to run free.
