“Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.” Ruth 1:16-17

There are some verses in the Bible that are just so poetic.

I can’t imagine the grit and determination it took in that time to pledge yourself to someone like Ruth did to Naomi. Nor can I imagine how hard it would be to “glean the fields” for hours on end to avoid death in poverty. In reading through the Old Testament it’s striking how brutal of a time this was to be alive – and in the midst of that remarkable people who trust in God do remarkable things. Wow. It’s amazing every time I read it.

Apparently there are 5 women mentioned in the lineage of Jesus – with Ruth I’ve now covered two of them (I posted about Rahab earlier) so I probably need to finish out the series. Let me know if you want to see the other three!
