Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
1 Timothy 4:13
I sometimes think we get the "exhortation" part wrong. For the longest time I really thought exhortation meant we were commanded to argue; to push. That's partially right, the dictionary (remember looking up stuff in an actual book??) defines it as "an address or communication emphatically urging someone to do something."
I think the context comes from 1 Tim 4:12:
Let no one despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
What a witness it would be to set an example in these areas? I'm constantly amazed at the timeless wisdom of the bible; who would have thought it set the standard for even our tweets?? What if the example we set is just as important as the words we type?
