“I’m practicing the discipline of not having to have the last word.”
The more I practice, the freer I become.
As you’ve probably noticed, I’m not here to fight. I read a lot of stuff, I listen to a lot of podcast, and I try to hear a bunch of different opinions and when I come across something that strikes me I post it here. I’m totally fine with the “mark and avoid” and “unfollow!” people - I get it; I don’t follow everybody either.
But like this quote from KB, I’ve found a particular peace in losing. I don’t need to win any arguments here. I’ll go back and forth a little bit occasionally but I’ve been that guy before that would leave super long and angry dissertations on social media but it never changed anyones mind and it just caused me stress. Not needing the last word has made it so I can read comments from people that disagree with me and take the good that’s there and leave the rest. I’ve found it more relaxing and frankly more constructive. So I don’t participate in the hot-take game on social media anymore. If someone needs the last word they can have it.
Because we’re all just learning right?
