I am literally begging everyone to take a look at all the uses of “modest” and “modesty” in the Bible before talking about yoga pants and leggings again. Thank you.

So…on twitter the topic of yoga pants/leggins/tights/whatever came up again. 😅

I dunno, discussions like this are strange to me. It’s one of those things that if we were all in a room together arguing over this and a group of non-Christians walked in they would think we were a bunch of non-serious people. For me yoga pants are things that women wear to work out or moms wear to drop the kids off or head to the grocery store or things women (and men) wear at the local half marathon. Although when men wear them we call them tights or jammers if you’re into lap swimming. I know there are spaces where that’s not the case but still. It’s just people living their lives, they’re not trying to be some kind of in-person thirst trap. If you have a conviction about yoga pants I wouldn’t want to take that from you; I totally understand not wearing them. I just don’t know if getting riled up on twitter is the most fruitful way to have this conversation?

I think Kate’s point is really key here though - it seems like sometimes we have conviction about something and CMD+F the Bible for words that’ll support our claim. I’m finding more and more when I earnestly dig into this thing that not only is my original conviction lacking in grace; but I have a new conviction that I wasn’t even expecting. There’s real power in reading the Bible with a child-like mind and letting it speak to us in the way that God intended instead of using it to win our twitter battles. Because as I’m finding when getting into these battles; there’s usually not a winner anyway. “Piety for me is not piety for thee” and all that.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try and get one of those cornbread donuts from the local Dunkin’ before they’re all sold out! 🍩 God bless you friends!
