You know the interesting thing with storytelling; especially in comics? The most impactful events generally have nothing to do with the super elements of the story.

In this 12-issue run of Superman from Grant Morrison some amazing things happen; dinosaurs emerge from the earths core; the moon gets broken from Superman being slammed into it; cosmic beings emerge from space and time to threaten the earth and on and on and on.

But the most amazing moments are like this panel I redrew here; they involve compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and sacrifice. An all-powerful being humbles himself to walk among us in a plan to save us all.

Sound familiar?

I’m not trying to turn this into “Sketchy goes to the Movies” but I’m interested in the storytelling. It’s really interesting how these themes are universal and show up over and over again and when they’re missing we feel it.

The love of Jesus permeates it all. It’s really something else. 🙏🏻
