We have to realize that Christian Nationalism is a rejection of the Gospel. Jesus is the messiah for the whole of humanity.

A social media post about Christian Nationalism; what could go wrong? 😅
I got *a lot* of requests for this one. I always enjoy listening to Bob Roberts Jr. speak but this one seemed to strike a chord for a lot of people. Here was Bob’s definition of christian nationalism from the podcast:
“Christian Nationalism is equating the kingdom of God with the United States of America.”
When I think of CN I usually think of statements that sound something like this:
“You can’t be a Christian if you don’t vote for or support the people I vote for and support.”
That part I’m not a fan of. I think political ideologies can be complex and layered and we do each other a disservice when we lump everything we like with “our” party and everything we hate with “their” party.
We don’t have alter calls where we instruct people to “receive Jesus with an open heart and updated voting history” so I don’t see why it’s a criteria we like to label people with in our online discussions.
I guess like with most things, I plan on approaching this thing with a ton of grace, a handful of humility, and a willingness to discuss things with people I don’t agree with. The extremes on both ends like to rile us up; I wish we could figure out how to turn the temperature down a little bit. My advice is the same here as it is most married couples going through trouble, “you gotta figure out how to communicate without screaming at each other.” 👀
