So, apparently there’s a World Sketchnote Day and today is that day! 🥳
This account has become mostly quotes and cartoons as of late but if you scroll down far enough I started it when I began making sketchnotes of the sermons I was hearing at church. What started as a fun way to stay focused on the message become a super enjoyable hobby and has brought so much joy and deep learning to my life and my faith.
It started when I read “The Sketchnote Handbook” by @rohdesign from @thesketchnotearmy. This book really helped me to let go of the notion that note taking should be a boring and text-only endeavor. @emily_a_mills also has a book I’d recommend called “The Art of Visual Notetaking.” There’s an awesome sketchnote community here on instagram including @alejoporrasart (along with @theconqueringcreative and really everyone from @thesketcheffect), @adrien.liard.sketchnotes (I’m actively trying to steal all of his techniques right now), @thinkwithapencil, and a whole host of other people I’m forgetting. Seriously just check out #worldsketchnoteday and see how many awesome people you discover out there. Instead of gatekeepers and cynics I just keep meeting people who are super talented and encouraging to anybody who needs help. EDIT: somehow I left @rossboone out of this; sorry man, you’re all kinds of awesome and I’ve learned so much from you! 👊🏻
All this to say; for the longest time I was the guy “that can draw some things.” I never did much with it. Sketchnoting opened the door for me to learn, express myself, and build something I could never accomplish by myself. For that, I’m super grateful.
Happy World Sketchnote Day!
