How do Christians fit in a two party system?

“How do Christians fit in a two party system? They don’t. While believers can be active in politics, they should not identify the Christian church or faith with a political party as the only Christian one.”

@timkellernyc from a 2018 New York Times Op-ed

Wow, ok…we’re doing this again. Same guys; four years later. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I feel like people instruct us to “choose the lesser of two evils” but…the parties want this. Trump isn’t the party nominee by some default incumbent standard; he’s been chosen despite an immeasurable quantity of terrible attributes. Biden, who seems *clearly* in decline, did not win against a rough field of up and coming democrats, he was chosen. So here we go; unless something crazy happens one of these two guys will be president again.

The thing that I bristle against is that by choosing either side you kinda have to accept the entire basket of ideals that comes with that side and to some people that puts your Christian faith in question; especially online. Without discussion.

A non-Christian example of this came up last week when Jon Stewart returned to the Daily Show desk and skewered *both* Biden and Trump; he seemed to receive backlash from just about every mainstream democrat for saying maaaaaaaybe Biden is too old for this. I thought about quoting him this last Monday in his response to the backlash when he said: “It was never my intention to say out loud what I saw with my eyes.”

Personally, I find comfort in Kellers statement. I can’t comfortably settle into either political party and that’s a good thing; I don’t think I’m supposed to. Instead, I’ll be active, ask questions, share my opinions when they’re needed, double-down when I’m right, freely admit when I’m wrong and have faith that Jesus’ kingdom is coming and it’s the perfect system that I should settle into comfortably.
