“It never occurred to me that my creativity could be used in my daily devotional time to help me connect with God.”

Sophie Killingley (@perishandfade ) from her new book, “Draw Near” with @thegoodbookcompanyuk

I know - color right!? If you follow Sophie, you know I couldn’t do this one monochrome. 😅

In reading Sophie’s intro to her new book I was struck by how I felt the EXACT SAME WAY. 😳 Most artists have a sketchbook of some type and we generally don’t show it to anyone but it’s where we try out new ideas and experiment and generally just have fun with this craft. But when it comes to devotionals and Bible reading we put that stuff away and pull out a highlighter. Instead of drawing and imagining vivid landscapes we just simply highlight words.

Why?

For me, I had it my mind that Bible reading was supposed to be rote and difficult and if it didn’t feel like school then I wasn’t doing it right. I’m not proposing that Bible reading should be fun per se, but it should be an adventure. God gave us these amazing tools to comprehend His word and it’s a shame that the default seems to turn them off when we learn about Him.

Sophie’s book provides a loose framework for those looking to break out of highlighter mode and move into something different. If you’re looking to explore to explore Jesus in a structured but unconventional way I’d *highly* recommend checking it out.

GIVEAWAY DETAILS: The Good Book Company is generously offering a copy of Sophie’s new book and I’ll throw in a copy too so two people will get it!
