Raymond Chang

“People looking into the window of Christianity are convinced that Jesus doesn’t have anything to do with justice because far too many of us have divorced justice from Jesus.

A Jesus without justice is not the Jesus we see in the Bible.” @raychang502

In my day to day life I write a lot of code and in the background I’ll have a sermon playing because it provides some noise. Every now and then, a pastor will say something that catches my ear and draws me into the sermon. Admittedly, for this sermon that Raymond Chang delivered at @newstory.la , it was when Raymond mentioned his hatred of mayonnaise. As a fellow hater of mayo, I almost high-fived the screen to oblivion. Ug, it’s so gross. It’s like someone said, “This butter is pretty good but what if the texture was more like snot?” And then they created mayonnaise. Much to my chagrin.

In listening to the rest of the message, I was presented with a raw and sometimes uncomfortable message. But that’s how it’s supposed to be right? When a group of brothers and sisters in Christ collectively say “we have a problem” I don’t want my reaction to be “we all got problems.” I want to push aside the power structures and the biases and the “way things are done” and find the resolution that Jesus would want to see. It’s a wonderful service, if you have the time to watch it I’m sure you’ll be blessed.

If I ever find myself in LA again I’d love to visit New Story. Everything I see from them is just so loving and graceful.
