Wasted Energy

“I used to argue with others who didn’t believe women could preach and pastor. So much energy wasted.

Nowadays, I just train and provide opportunities for women to preach in our congregation. And when they do, hearts re changed, Jesus is glorified and the church is edified.”

The happenings over at the SBC have been quite the topic of conversation for the past week. If you haven’t been following; the SBC disfellowshipped Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church because of their ordination and support of women pastors. That disfellowship was upheld by a huge margin by the convention.

I don’t think this is a primary issue to break fellowship over but I’m not serving in any kind of leadership capacity. I pray the women that are turned away and discouraged find a place where they are accepted and encouraged to do the work that God has set out before them. It’s hard enough to do what we came here to do when our brothers and sisters drag us down from inside our own circle.

The discourse around this is unfortunate because for some it is “so clear.” I’ve heard so much commentary from so many who talk about how clear it is but do not great each other with a holy kiss, do not raise holy hands when they pray, and do not think that “turn the other cheek” really means “turn the other cheek.”

At least admit there’s nuance and let’s argue, humbly, as brothers and sisters; remembering that Christ literally died and literally returned to life for our sake and His efforts and His ways will always surpass our own.
