Proposed Truth

“When you make room for all “truth” you end up with none.

My friends and I had just walked out of a Baha’i temple when that thought crossed my mind.

I’ve been in a lot of places the world deems spiritual and religious. And surrounded at that moment by people who seemingly allowed for most religions to simultaneously be valid, I found that I felt like I had just witnessed a huge exercise in nothingness.

I found the man who ran the study library on the grounds and asked him, “how do you feel when you come across parts of various religions that obviously contradict?”

He replied, “It’s fine.”

I assumed the language barrier had kept him from understanding my question. After I clarified, he said; “The don’t contradict. We just think they do.”

Religion is not the opiate of the people – universalism is. The comfort humans take from pretending there is no truth or contradictions is astounding.

What happens when we are no longer willing to entertain the notion that our differences are actually different? The same thing that happens when we pretend circles are squares.

Accepting all proposed truth as actual truth is actually just lying to ourselves in favor of a deception disguised as a comfort.”

Ok that was Pastor Jeremy’s post – now it’s me Paul speaking. Hi! 🙋🏻‍♂️ There’s not enough room here so I’m going to talk about flat earthers down in the comments. You’ll see what I mean go down there!

NOTE: I’m not going full-color on these. I just really enjoy the creation of monochrome art so while I’ll break out a color every now and then, it won’t be a regular feature.
